2dimensional materials are the new wonder material in the field of material Physics. They are substances which have a thickness of just a few nanometeres. The unique thing about these materials is that the electrons in them move around in a plane rather than a 3 dimensional area in normal materials. They do move in the third dimension, but it is restricted and governed by quantum mechanics. Graphene is one of the most prominent and earliest examples of such materials.

The smartphone that you use is one of the examples of how multiple processors can now be bunched inside a small space. Whether it is light emitting diodes, transistors or batteries, they are getting smaller and more powerful as days go by. In fact, the continued use of 2d materials for research on the thinnest configuration of materials possible that has all the semiconducting, metallic and insulating properties has given rise to this material. The first to be invented and synthesized is Graphene which was synthesized from Graphite. Since then, a number of new 2D materials have been found and synthesized such as h-BN, MoS2, black phosphorus etc.

They are now used to make flexible transistors having high performance, gas sensors, mechanical resonators, solar devices etc. It seems that research on 2d materials has really heralded into a new era of material science. Graphene has some extraordinary properties. It is flexible, has unique electron mobility, has excellent thermal and electrical conduction capacity and chemically inert. Apart from making transistors, it is also used in making flexible electronics, super capacitor, transparent electrodes etc. Also, it can absorb a wide spectrum of light from the visible spectrum to the infrared section. So it can also be used to make photoswitch, light emitting diode, photo detector etc. They can also be used for making logic devices.

New Findings About The Utility Of Graphene

A flood of research on 2d materials has come up with a number of new materials. In fact, there has been a surge in the discovery of new materials after the discovery of graphene and its various properties. The discovery of Graphene has nudged scientists to research more on its properties and thereafter embark on the quest of new 2d wonder materials. Slowly, new 2d materials like graphene, stanine, phosphorene etc have been synthesized.

Now scientists have gone out of their way and are in the quest of laying Graphene n other 2d materials and come up with stunning possibilities. This can give rise to new material properties. Even synthesis of 2d materials need to be impeccable since that would help in getting pure materials. Scientists are combining graphene, phosphorene, stanine etc and continuing their experiments to discover more new properties and applications of 2d materials. The race is really heating up.

Scientists have also found that different types of Graphene can be combined in different ways and make new properties. There are possibilities like LED lights that can change colours. The future is bright for 2d materials for research since scientists are unearthing more uses of these materials.
