  1. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is also abbreviated at ABS, which is actually a very popular polymer that is made out of petroleum. One of the most renowned materials that is frequently used for 3D printing projects. Its versatility includes it being used in high temperatures and being able to have the capacity to resist it. This makes it quite a popular material to be used in a number of different projects. It is also quite inexpensive, rendering it to be quite useful while making prototypes. The only disadvantage ABS has is the fact that it produces toxic fumes when being heated, so one has to be quite careful handling it.

  2. Polylactic Acid which is also abbreviated as PLA. It is made out of natural resources which includes sugarcane, cornstarch etc. One of the reasons more people should be convinced to use PLA is because it is quite environmental friendly in nature. It’s advantage lies in the fact that it is biodegradable. Even though PLA requires to be printed at a temperature between 180°C and 220°C, one would not find any kind of toxic fumes that get produced as compared to ABS. The only disadvantage that includes for this material is the fact that the post processing is quite a time consuming process.

  3. Nylon: One of the most popular 3D printing materials, it is quite a strong and durable polymer that has a translucent and silky finish to it. Nylon is also known at the ‘white plastic’. It’s disadvantage includes the fact that during the printing process, Nylon tends to absorb moisture hence the finish product will have different variations in measurements.

  4. ULTEM: This material falls under the Polytheremide material group. The reason why it is used is because it makes the material quite durable and strong. This material consists of glass fibres which makes it sturdy in nature. Even though it is a thermoplastic, you would need a really high temperature to melt it.

There are many other materials as well that you can choose from as well but these are the popular ones in the world of 3D printing.
